Once Upon a Time . . . 

I took a job as an SLP working for a special education program that focused exclusively on students on the autism spectrum. (Spoiler alert - I LOVED that job!) but in the beginning it was tough! Most of my students really NEEDED visuals to comprehend the world around them. 

All the worksheets and workbooks that I could find still needed to be modified for my students - they were too challenging or didn't include visuals. Everyone on our team shared a disc for Boardmaker (a program for making visuals) and whoa that program is NOT intuitive!!  

Luckily, I had a wonderful co-worker who showed me the basics for making visuals and then I was off! I made visuals for everything. But. . . I was spending a lot of time making them - my personal time. 

But I kept going because I wanted my students to be successful.

Most resources utilize Picture Communication Symbols (PCS/Boardmaker symbols), which are familiar to many special education students, especially those who use AAC.
